What might this be?

A friend has this in her yard. It was planted by the owners and they don't know what it is either. She's in zone 4b. Does anyone know?

Phlox paniculata?

Looks like phlox, but she said it was more of a shrub. That's why i wondered.

Yes, does appear to be a large growing phlox, a very nice one at that!

marcia, I thought that it was a phlox too. Some of them grow quite tall! :-)

Thanks, then - i'll let her know. Actually, she posted the picture for me because i'm always showing off what's blooming in my garden. Her yard belongs to the owners of the house and she's not a gardener so she doesn't really care what it is. LOL But i cared! :)
