Pear tree question

About 7 years ago we bought 2 pear trees, the ones that have 3 types of pears on them. At the time we were told that we did not need any other pear tree to cross pollinate and that we would have lots of pears in about 4 years. We got no pears for about 5 years so I emailed the place and asked what was wrong. They told me that I needed another tree to cross polinate. We did some pruning on the tree and cut off the suckers and then we did get 1 pear last year. This year we have gotten 4 pears. Any ideas what we can do to improve fruit production? Marg

I find pears very slow to bear fruits...give it two more years.
Graft more varieties onto this trees might help also or plant another kind.

I was told by the grower to expect 8-10 years of grow time from seed. My Thomas has about 6 fruits on it but only because it spent most of it's life in a small pot which induces maturity. I think the best thing you could do is be patient.

Just thought I'd report back. The tree was covered with flowers this spring, you could barely see the leaves. Thought we would get quite a few but as it turns out, we only got 3. Still they were very good. Can't wait to see what happens next year. Marg
