I'm also looking for a shorter evergreen tree. Don't bother with Dwarf Alberta Spruce - i was told that i'd have trouble with it, and i have. It has a lot of winterkill, and as soon as i find something to take its place, it's coming out.

The last issue of Manitoba Gardening had an article on this very thing and one that caught my eye was a pine with blue-ish needles. I can't remember the name, though - will look it up when i get home from work.

It's called Blue Shag pine (Pinus strobus). Also mentioned in the article is a dwarf hemlock, 'Gentsch White'. It has white-tipped new growth. There are others mentioned there, but they're just green. :)

I love mugo pines. There are some tiny dwarf versions, right up to the full sized ones that I have, over 15' across. Different colour variations, too.

What host site do you have photos on?

Pinus Nigra 'Frank' (Interweb says that it's wide, but the ones I've seen with my own eyes are extremely narrow - also very slow growing)
Pinus Strobus 'Fastigia'
Mugo 'Big Tuna'

Oh yeah, the junipers:

Juniperus Scopulorum 'Blue Arrow' - extremely narrrow. This one really fits your bill. Mature height of 5m (15 feet), width of just 90cm (Juniperus Scopulorum 'Skyrocket' - same sort of thing. Very blue.
There's also 'Medora', 'Wichita Blue', 'Moonglow', but these might get too wide for you - about 3m (9 ft). All three are quite blue.

I use Phtobucket. It's what I've always used, so not sure why now I'm having problems.
