What I found out, pencil last longer then permanent markers, take
old white window blinds and cut in strips, punch a hole in it, also
UV protected.

I think I may have those same aluminum markers from Lee Valley and I purchased a special pencil along with them that seems to work well. Likely a regular pencil would work too.

If you want anything permanent I have done aluminum, you can get
from hardware store in rolls for flashing's on house, you can cut easily and engrave with a dremmel or engraving tool.

I use 7" pieces of aluminum blind and make labels with a Brother labeller. I got this idea from the Daylily Forum. They're not 100% permanent, but they do last a long time and are easy to read.

You can also get those paint marker thingies at hardware stores that are meant for writing on metal. They've usually got white or metallic paint in them with a little ball inside to keep the pain mixed up.

I have found the adhesive plastic strips that you press the letters in with a little gizmo work very well. I have been sticking them to aluminum strips I had on hand, but I would think one could stick them to strips from old blinds, etc. Even if the color were to fade, the letters will still be embossed in the tape, and the adhesive seems to stick extremely well. No permanent marker I have ever tried lasted. Northwoodswis

The Aluminum tags from LV are supposed to be used with a ball point pen. Put on a pad of paper, and press fairly hard. You aren't writing ON the aluminum. You are engraving INTO the aluminum. You won't see any ink transfer.

Avery makes a line of weatherproof laser labels. They work for at least 5 years.

Shippers supply carries "Art Line" paint pens. These work well on coreplast. (Corregated plastic from Home Depot, Rona, etc.) Get the black. Yellow and blue coreplast seem to be quite resistant to sunlight. Use a bent coat hanger as a stake. I've had these last for at least 5 years.
