Cute little weasels you've got there. During heavy cone production years the squirrels stack them a couple of feet deep against the bases of the tree trunks. I thought I was losing my mind the first time I saw it, but sure enough they nibbled on them all winter and by spring they were just the little cob things left.

northspruce, they don't seem to stack them against the trunks here but every depression in the ground is filled, and my shop, and a truck that had a window down a bit, and my bbq and, and hence the war. Talking with colleagues on other fronts they fear the Squirrel Empire may possibly stronger than the Cartel's....oh my..

Ginny, that is the scary part about them....they use their cute looks to manipulate their targets. They were very proud of themselves as they baited and chose the location of the trap and release site. Don't worry about them being properly compensated as they keep my wallet pretty light.

beegood they are absolutely for hire. Ohh these aren't those butt ugly black suckers it was just the lighting. I hadn't thought of taking a photo until the last minute and it was heavily backlit. Also why I accidentally shaded out half the kids faces...I should have looked at the pics in the field.
