I had no choice but to let go early in September with that nasty cold and snow that plunged down our backs from the arctic. But, with that came the welcome chance to give an extra early clean up to the garden and move around plenty of shrubs and perennials that otherwise would have needed to wait until spring. It's a LOT easier to see how the colors and textures go along with one another when the plants are in growth, rather than dealing with dormant lifeless looking stock.

You bring up an excellent point. One of my biggest issues in planning is not having the experience of knowing what a mature plant will look like, I can't plan with pictures. So I am buying and planting plants sort of 'willy nilly' until I can see what they are like when they mature. At that point I will arrange my gardens the way I want. I never thought of moving them in the fall when I either can see what they look like or for that matter remember.

On that note I am going to head out and divide my prized trollius.

SCG, often I'll just snip a few stems or a bundle of leaves off the plants or group of plants I'm thinking of placing nearby to one another to determine just how well they play together.

Was a beautiful day to spend outdoors, though that wind has picked up. I hope we can squeak in another month of decent to good weather and then I'd be prepared for winter ... but, looks like rain and cool temps for tomorrow, though we really do need moisture!!

The weather has been so nice that I'm not letting go, I'm holding on and attempting to get all necessary yard chores accomplished before the snow flies and getting a jump start on some spring projects, such as prepping for seeding grass.
