centers of potatoes

Didn't find anything with a search; so I'll post a question.

Does anyone know what causes potatoes to get a rotten spot in the center? Yukon Gold has it more often than the reds. We had a very rainy August, 33 days straight. Thanks for your thoughts.

Trisha, indeed it was the very wet weather you received that contributed to the rotten centers in the potatoes.

I agree that it was likely moisture. Usually, if it's moisture the centres have a split with sharp edges. The potatoes aren't really rotted.
