Planted some Bulbs but .......

I planted 60(?) of my bulbs today finally.

There's rain in the forecast, so I decided not to water them yet. I thought that maybe watering and rain would result in squishy bulbs by spring.

Is it absolutely necessary for me to make sure the rain got all the way down to the bulbs? Do I have to dig up 3 inches or so of the soil and water to make sure they've had a drink before winter sets in?

The rule is to water them when planted, right? Has anyone planted and not watered and still gotten blooms in the spring?
