The box stores usually have a good selection of caladium in the spring. I'm sure I bought mine at Home Depot several years ago, and I think I've also seen them at Canadian Tire and Walmart.

There was a lot of interest in them on this forum quite a few years ago, but most of us couldn't grow them very big because we don't get enough heat and humidity for a long enough period in the summer.

No problem - I actually went back and found two of our old threads about them - you can search the forum and find them if you want. As I recall we were all finding them at Cdn Tire, Walmart and Home Depot. Selection might change year to year. It would be good to keep the bulbs (corms? tubers?) year to year if you can, because we all agreed they were slow growers and should have been started earlier than they became available.

WM had decent Caladium and Colcasia last spring.
They also had Alocasia, but those were not in good condition. I think that you have to cruise the stores and find which one has the best products. Sometimes I find differences between stores of the same chains.

Yes they are slow growers and they need to be started in February or March. That is part of the problem here in Canada, IF you can find a place to order them from they won't ship them until the weather warms up. By then, you only have a few small leaves and it's frost again. So this is a two year endevour, and yes, save the tuber to start early enough the next year.
I have read good things about Flora Exotica in Quebec, if he has Alocasia come spring I will give him a try.

Costco has them in the Spring. For the common ones, you get eight per bag and the more specialty ones only have three in them. Price was around $13. Always check to see how large the bulbs are and whether they are in good condition; sometimes the big box stores sell them cheaper but they aren't good value if they are in bad shape and don't grow.
