Has anybody ever grown or seen a gray garden?

| I saw pictures of one in Horticulture magazine (wish I hadn't loaned that issue out!) and it was the spookiest looking place imaginable. Whoever grew it used only differing colors of gray, silver and black with lots of different textures, everything from fuzzy to shiny, finely divided to large, entire. What I think of when I hear people talking about black gardens (green foliage, black flowers) would look rather bland beside those images. I was wondering if anybody had ever seen one in person and if it was as spooky as it looked in those pictures. |

| I used to have a book called (I think!) "Growing Grey and Silver Foliage Plants", years ago. It was a softcover, published in either Australia or New Zealand, I forget which. It did have some color photos, and lots of plant lists as well. Of course most of them would be tender in the Northern half of the USA. I think grey/silver gardens would work best in hot dry climates such as Arizona. But isn't/wasn't there a Silver Garden at Sissinghurst?? |
