Fig care and ripening

I realize this has been posted many times over but the threads I read didn't quite address my situation.

I bought a Conadria Yellow fig and a Hardy Chicago fig each a few inches tall about 8 months ago. I put them each in 3.5 Gallon containers and they grew pretty well. The Conadria Yellow now has about 5 figs on it and has for quite some tome now maybe 2 months the figs are big but still very hard. The Hardy Chicago has no figs.

What should I do about these unripe figs? Will they ripen or is it best to remove them? Also the growth of the figs seems to have stalled despite fertilization. Is this due to the onset of winter or the pot size? I realize 3.5 gallons is very small but I really want to keep them in as small a container as possible.
