I got a pleasant suprise when I had to go into my storage place for something recently, and saw some nicely ripened and slightly dried black figs still hanging on my Petite Negri tree. They had been unripe when I stored the potted Petite Negri away in November, the day before the first snow here in zone 5.
I was amazed that even in the dark and cold they had ripened. This was the first year I had gotten figs from this tree, the tree is about 3 1/2- 4 years old. I think they were among the best figs I had gotten from all of our fig trees from last season. They were actually better than the ones that had ripened outsdoors from the same tree, perhaps because they had ripened more completely.
These figs had a small black/deep violet color when fully ripe, and a dark red interior, with a berry/pomegranate/fig type flavor, and seeds were tiny and barely noticable when eaten.
