winsorw, that sounds like the same problem I had on one of my trees this summer. It is probably some sort to scale. I cured mine by spraying it with some water with a little alcohol and a couple of drops of soap in it. I sprayed once a week for three week and it was over with. Here is a picture of mine. I don't know if that what caused the figs to split and turn themselves inside out, but all of the figs on that tree did the same.

I think mine is due to coral spot fungus, now I have to treat it.
Genecolin, mine doesn't look like yours. I hope coral spot fungus doesn't infect fruits.
