Question about braiding

I've only recently started to enjoy growing some potted plants indoors. My wife and I went to our local nursery a few months back and they were discounting their tropical plants as their greenhouse was crazy full. So we bought a braided ficus.

So far it's been pretty healthy and happy, despite being brought into our cold (compared to the greenhouse), somewhat arid home.

The only question I have at the moment is this:

It is currently about about a foot and a half tall. As it grows, should I continue to braid it? If I don't, will it look silly as it gets larger? Seems like a simple question, but I had difficulty finding any answer just by googling.

Thanks!
