How do you start fig cuttings

I am a complete novice to growing fig trees, but have enjoyed this forum very much as it's very informative. In reading the posts I notice people talking about cuttings and my question(s) is this:

1. How do you get a cutting from your tree and...

2. How do you start & plant a cutting?

A cutting is just a 6 to 10 inch piece of branch that's been cut off from the tree. It should be about as thick as a fat pencil and have at least 2 or 3 nodes, which are the fat "knuckles" where a leaf bud grows out of. Just cut them off of a tree that you like (and have permission to trim) with a sharp pair of hand shears.
