As long as the cuttings you took were not damaged by the recent abnormally cold weather, they should have a good chance of rooting. The time of year is appropriate. The methods you are using are also some of the many tired and true ways of getting cuttings to root. Many people advise cleaning the cuttings well with a 10% bleach solution and letting it airdry before starting the rooting. Some like to use various types of wax on the cutting ends to prevent dehydration, but might not be needed since you are rooting right away. Check the cuttings regularly for mold - wipe it off if you see it. Make sure the paper towels are not soggy - should be just damp.

Pot them up when you get some roots. Yes you can grow them in a window or under plant lights till the danger of frost is gone. Most people will keep them in pots the first couple years in our climate before planting them outside, but another alternative is to plant outside and protect it with insulation for the first few years during the winter. Search the forum here for winter protection of figs for examples.

Thanks for the response eboone! Well, I have already ran into a mold problem. I had 2 tip cuttings per plastic bag and had them placed above my heat ducts. I think it was too hot for them up there so I moved them. My question now is did I destroy these cuttings by letting them get moldy? I washed them off with dish soap and scrubbed them with a paint brush. I stuck one in turface with about 2 in. above the pot, and stuck the other in al's grity mix. I covered both with a plastic bag for humidity. I dont have any bleach at home but I will get some if it will help. I sure hope I didnt kill these cuttings. They do have a yellow ooze dripping from the cut ends, but no signs of any roots. Just mold.
