New Figer

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the great information here. This is a great place.

I remember as a kid, helping my grandmother pick figs that should would preserve and I always loved them, fresh or preserved. That was many years ago, but now I'd like to grow a tree in the back yard (Dallas Texas).

I'm still trying to figure out which one. Seems Celeste is pretty popular, and that's what most of the nurseries carry.

I saw at Home Depot, they have "Ischia" figs, but it doesn't say what color. Does anyone know? And are they a good variety for this zone? I also saw a good sized Brown Turkey at a local nursery, but was concerned about the "open eye".

There's just so many different kinds and it leave me all confused. I only have room for one tree in ground, so I want to make a good choice.

I'd kind of like one that's already 4 to 5 feet tall, but can't seem to find any place local that sells them that big.

We'll eventually use the figs to eat fresh and to preserve.

If anyone has any generic or specific advice, please chime in. I'm still reading and researching as much as I can.

Thanks,
James
