planting Petite negronne in the ground?

I have been growing a petite negronne for the past 4 years in a pot and have taken it into the garage when the temperatures dropped. I was hoping to plant it this year. Will it survive? When is the best time to do it? Should I take any special precautions next winter? Thanks in advance!

Hi there Forgetmenot: I will get thread going it usually gets others to chime in.
You been growing it for 4 years in a pot i want to see pictures of ripe fruit and the tree (enjoy others pics )! ; )
Anyways im in a colder zone and i would think you should protect it with a wrap as many do on the forums, i just grow in containers. Im sure others can tell you how to wrap. I do know that there is a nice way where some folks use chicken wire to form a round cage around the plant and stuff it with dry leafs and such.
Will it survive im sure it will others in area such places jersey, penn, new york, wrap, cover, cage etc and theres survive. There is another nice fig forum called Figs4Fun (google it ) and you also can get some ideas as well there along with some help as well. Any other forums that are in english dealing with figs i have not seen at this point.

SOP is ~If it is still fully dormant you could do it now. If it has started to bud and there is still a chance of frost damage, hold off until all danger of frost damage is gone.
I am in a fairly nice area frost wise so I don't get confronted with a lot of problems relative to some. The most I ever have to do is cover my trees with plastic sheets. I try to soak the ground before a big freeze so the water keeps the temperature to 32 degrees as it freezes. It is a fairly common practice both commercially and privately to run sprinklers or irrigation systems during a freeze in California. Kind of neat to see a tree draped in icicles when this happens.
The worst problem I have to deal with is unseasonally high temperatures followed by a late freeze. Knocks the heck out of the young buds if they broke.

Just plant it on the south side of your hous, close to foundation,within4 foot.
You are in zone 7,wich is not very cold, and also your cultivar is not very hardy.
You should get every year main crop figs if planted as I said.
If planted far in the open, then it could die every year to ground, and be late in getting ripe.
