Transplanting time for figs?

Posted by wertach 7b SC (My Page) on

I weighted down some lower branches on my fig tree and they have set roots in the ground.

When would be the best time to snip and dig them to transplant to other areas?

Now, while they are dormant or wait until warmer weather?

I also have some that are about 4' + tall that I'm thinking of digging up and transplanting.

RE: Transplanting time for figs?

I can't help, just hoping someone answers, as I have a small fig tree that needs put in the ground.

I would hazard a guess and say spring time? Unless someone suggests otherwise, I'll be putting mine in the ground around may first.

RE: Transplanting time for figs?

I am interested in this topic too. I have a couple figs overwintered in pots in an unheated greenhouse and I am ready to put them in the ground here in NC, but I am still not sure if it is the right time yet since they are still young.
