It may fruit this year and it may not. There are a lot of factors that come into play.

What variety is it?

How big is the tree? Can you post a picture?

How big is a "Huge Pot" to you?

How many hours of full sun does the tree get?

How well does the soil drain?

Do you fertilize? If so when and with what and how much?

The fact that it dropped leaves when it should not suggests improper watering/drainage or that the tree is being heat stressed. Perhaps the root zone is getting to hot. So what kind of pot is it and how are you protecting it from the sun?
