Give it a shot and then start another tree as well to try in a different spot if the first wakes up in winter from the fires and gets frozen. A few feet should be far enough away but 6 or more makes it easier to pick fruit, prune, and grow a nice shaped plant.

Some Ficus.x trees are known to have very invasive roots.
Lucky us; the F.carica (common fig) is NOT one of them.
Actually, I have heard that they do specially well if
planted close to the house (more south side better winter wise).

A minimum 3-6 feet away from the foundation should be OK.
(Yeah, some fig trees can eventually grow a massive trunk)
