Choosing varieties for Kentucky

I have read a lot of the postings trying to decide which varieties would do best here. I have one tree that I brought from my father's tree in AL and have no idea which one it is. His was very prolific but mine doesn't produce many figs. Sometimes it is killed all the way to the ground even with some winter protection. I have had it probably at least 20 years.

I have had very little chance to taste different varieties so don't know which one I want by taste. I like figs and want to try something more. The descriptions all sound so good that I can't decide. So I need some recommendations for which varieties would do best here.

My other consideration is I do not have a very sunny garden. I think one in a pot would be better so I could take it to my daughter's sunny yard.
