| Hi all,
I've got a year-old fig tree (ficus carica) that seems quite healthy, but today I noticed that white spots are appearing on its leaves (see photo at this link: http://www.lcscanada.com/jaf/fig_spots.jpg ). What are these spots? Should I be worried? Is there something I should do to help this tree? Thanks,

Looks like hard water was sprayed & dried on the leaves. I'm guessing that the minerals left behind will wipe off. I wouldn't be worried.

Well, the spots do come off easily when wiped with a wet paper towel, so hopefully you are right. Thanks! -Jeremy

The white spots I see on my Ficus tree are just one spot at the base of the leaf where the branch starts. Is this a bug or something else; the leaves do turn yellow and drop over time. I have changed the soil and removed all these white dots by hand. Help.

It can actually happen on it's own, without water spray. Plants get rid of excess salts through their stomata, whic is what you are seeing. A little rain or shower with the hose and it should be all gone.
