Italian Weeping Fig or Fiorone Di Ruvo

jimmy_56

I purchased this fig tree at local nursery in Houston Tx,

It was labeled Italian Fig. Can anyone help me find the correct name.

Branches grow downward and several roots grow above ground

as I was told by the nursery because they grow on the hillside

Fig from 2008

Either way what an awesome tree and fruit as well. Not only is the tree growth special, so is the size of the figs. Get back to me if you want to do any trading.

First off, gorgeous tree, jealousy abounds. Very hard if not next to impossible to attain that in the Northeast.

Did you see the post near the bottom of the front page for weeping fig?

That's grown up here in RI in pot close to where I live. From my take the tree and branches look very much alike. The fruit is off though. But climate may have an effect on that. The Breba crop is very large but more flat. I believe the main crop is smaller.

I have cuttings of both going now. Anything I get now would not be indicative of what it would look at your size. Ruvo is a breba only crop and may lose its main crop for lack of a fig wasp. The fruit shown looks close to what pics I have seen of Ruvo. But compared to my cuttings, they look nothing alike with the bark and structure is different.

I would go with Ruvo but I don't know what a Fioroni tree looks like. Sorry!

Jimmy, thanks a pant load for posting the video link, keyboard is drooled mess now....
The weeping sure makes it easier to pick, great looking tree and awesome fig.

BTW Fioroni just means breba crop, forniti is the main crop.
Outstanding fig, love big figs. I may as well get near the front of line, check your msgs...

    Well,

I have both. Time will tell how they are in my climate.
Right now they are still young and small.

    Come to think of it.

I have one labeled as Magnolia that weeps like this. The fruit looks almost the same too.

It is not Weeping fig,for sure.
Fiorone di rovo, very possible,as the fruits shown are Breba.

    Hi Jimmy,

Happy Belated Birthday. Friday was my anniversary. Happy day for both of us.
I would love to trade for a cutting of your fig. I have cuttings and small plants to offer. If you are interested, please send me an email. I am just west of San Antonio.
    Thanks,

The ONLY weeping (plus definitely a horizontal growth)
is my Wuhan fig (origin: China), great as a pot-fig.
    My original source: (SSE-LA MC R 06).
I also presume that there more than one with same name,
b/c I do see fruit pics that look much different...

I had a fig tree sold to me as LSU Purple and when it was about 6ft tall I cut it down to 4ft. Now it looks similar to that weeping fig but the fruits are smaller (maybe just larger than a 25 cents). At times I call it a weeping fig.
My wife laughs at me and says they are all Brown Turkey grown in different areas LOL
I would like to grow a cutting side by side and see what happens!
