Can you identify this fig tree?

Hello,

I live in the Middle East, so it is hot here most of the year, and our lows in the winter are still about 10 C (50 F). I got this fig tree from a friend, but they didn't know what kind it was. Now it is producing fruit and I would like to know if it is edible, and what kind of fruit it is.

The fruits are pale green with a little bit darker green stripes running vertically down the outside. The inside is mainly just small flowers, no real "flesh" or juice to speak of. The rind is white. I don't seem to have any problem with the birds trying to eat the fruits, which makes me think it might not be edible.

The leaves are lobeless, shaped like a heart. The tree stands about 10 - 15 feet high, and is spread out low, but with plenty of space between the branches.

I am not sure how to post a picture to this forum, so I have put a picture on my website. You can find it by going to http://jshewell.com/figPic.jpg.

In the picture, the cut fruit and the green fruit were both picked when the fruit felt a little bit soft squeezed, but did not easily fall off the tree when I tried to pick it. The darker fruit fell off the tree easily when I picked it and is soft when squeezed. The coin in the picture is almost the same size as a US quarter.

Please help me identify this fruit so I can either do something with it, or maybe replace it with another tree if it is not edible. Thank you.
