Lack of Water: Leaf Loss

During my 3 week vacation, my 15 year old Benjamina Ficus was improperly watered. When I returned, the leaves were dropping severely and, despite heavy watering, they continue to drop. She will soon be naked!

Should I prune her back heavily and hope for the best? Continue the "water and wait and hope" approach? KILL my husband? Help!

is it in ground or potted?

figs are generally drought tolerant. i would not overwater as that would only rot the roots. i'd also would NOT prune.

i'd go with a regular watering schedule, such as once a week if in partial shade, or twice a week if in full sun.
