Cold Injured Fig Trees

gardeneating

Hi,

I'm new here and I have a handful of fig trees. One of them is a Negronne and it seems to have been damaged by the cold. The tips of the branches are dark and when i bend them they snap off. None of the buds are growing but there are at least 3 tiny shoots beginning to emerge from the base of some of the branches at ground level. I have googled this but all I get is to prune when growth begins. Can some of the more experienced growers tell me how to deal with this? Is it better to try and determine if any branches will grow or just cut the whole thing down to the ground? How do you know how much to cut and when? Any information on dealing with this I would appreciate.

Thanks,

Bill
