Hello.. I'm down in zone 7 in North Mississippi. I have two in ground fig trees showing fine new growth but little evidence of fig development. About 2 weeks ago I aggressively followed the information found within this forum regarding " tip pinching" of the trees and within 4 days figs were popping out everywhere. I'm convinced. Might want to review the posts that relate to this. Good luck.

I would pinch, fert w a little extra phos and maybe remove some brebas if you don't care for them.

What's a breba?

Breba is the overwintered spring crop.

I would pinch as well. Except on my trees, I just bend the last bit of stem before the tip leaf, and it snaps off, so no actual pinching occurs. That tip is quite brittle, so it's easy and fast. I live in a cool rainy climate, southwest Washington state, so the main crop is often quite late. Snapping off the tips makes the crop earlier and more likely to occur. It works for most of my varieties - even had some last year on King, which isn't supposed to have a fall crop.
