Figs that would do well in a cool coastal California climate?

A relative of mine is moving to Santa Barbara, California and wants to grow a fig tree there in a container. My first thought was to recommend VDB since it is a high quality fig that is a small tree. But when I checked out weather.com I realized that Santa Barbara has cool summers, usually staying in the 70's. So I'm not sure if it would be hot enough for VDB to ripen properly there.

Does anyone have recommendations for fig varieties that would do good in a container in Santa Barbara?

Thanks,

Joe
