Ambrosia Beetles are in some of my figs.They attacked a huge Red Oak in my yard that has a 7' diameter trunk. They were not the cause of its demise but were a symptom of its decline. I had to take the tree out because it threatened the house.
So, now they are in my figs. Most of my figs were frozen to the ground this year or almost. I'll cut down the largest fig in the pick that I posted and a second one I just found that has the beetles. I doubt I'll burn everything though. Whats the point? The beetles are here.

See a posting yesterday titled Fig Disease Photo Site. I posted a picture just like this one. The small wooden rods are sawdust produced by the borer working inside the trunk. I have cut my infected trunk and removed the bark, hoping to see the invader. The borer is deep in the wood, way below the cambium layer. It continues to produce these sawdust cylinders even though the trunk is down and stripped of bark. I have not been able to get a look at the borer. How do you know it is the Ambrosia Beetle? There are several others described. Does the water based paint-insecticide mixture treatment some suggest work? I can see that it might be a preventative, but can't see how it could reach the insect. Thanks.
