Your tree is probably undergoing transplant shock. In the last two months, I transplanted 8 fig trees into a backyard orchard, and half of them did exactly what your tree is doing. I suggest a bit of liquid fertilizer, but time should heal the tree. Mine are starting to rebound after a month.

Expect some figs next summer. After a few years, you should be getting a real crop. Good luck!

For the first couple of weeks, protecting the newly planted tree with shade cloth during the hottest part of the day might also help. The transition from pot to an unprotected backyard location is a big one.

Thanks for all your ideals. I did a cutting last spring which I put in a water bottle and planted the rooted stick which had put on a few leaves in the fall. I decided to cut it back to the ground in the hopes it would bush out. Well I thought it had died as I got no growth until this week when all of a sudden I now have leaves at the ground level looking great. So as one who loves to try new things am happy that I did not kill my new fig start.
