fig trees in Boston

peart

I live in Boston, where the winters are cold
I've tried to plant Brown Turkey figs here before, but they died
One may have died because I planted it in the ground in the fall and then didn't protect it over the winter
I planted another one in a big pot and brought it in over the winter. This one lasted about 2 years. I am suspecting that it died because I over-watered it over the winter. I thought I was only watering once a month, but maybe I watered it more than that.
For my last try, I just ordered another Brown Turkey fig and a Chicago Hardy fig, in small containers. I am not an expert gardener so I wonder if you would give me advice about what I should do to get the figs to survive here?
Thank you
