I live in NJ. Last year I had a bountiful fig harverst. However, this year I have yet to see any leaves starting on the main tree. I do have a few shoots which are beginning to produce leaves. Also, there are green blotches along the trunk and today I just noticed a soft hole forming along one branch as well as the wood being very soft and mushy there. The branches do not snap off and they do bend and if I break some off I do see some green. However, now I am concerned about the main trunk.

Is there any way this can be treated or should the tree be pruned down to the ground
