Reliable Canadian Nursery

fignewbies

Hi,

I just received my 4 lovely little fig trees yesterday from brugmansia-quebec nursery.
They were packed in a box. The trees were NOT bareroot,
and each was in a 4" X 4" X 4"(high) black plastic container.
Each tree is about 1 foot high, the leaves are so green
and healthy!
I certainly would recommend this nursery to all Cdn fig growers!

    Hi, ediblelandscaping.sc:

I got 2 dark fig and 2 light colored fig trees:
'Cvetko' *Golden brown fig; amber flesh; large size*
Very sweet figs and they mature quickly.
This variety is very productive in Quebec.

Drumondii' *Almost black fig; red flesh; large size*
Very sweet figs and they mature quickly.
This variety is very productive in Quebec.

'Archipel' *Greenish-yellow fig; honey-colored flesh; large size*
    Large early production.
'Lsu Gold' *Yellow fig; pink flesh; large size*
    Exceptional taste.

I would love to get many other types of fig tree but I don't have an acre of land so now I am content with 1 inground fig and 1 small sucker plant from that tree.
The inground fig maybe is a Kadota, moved last summer, insulated during winter with lots of leaves, a wire cage, old carpet and 1 large cardboard box that was used to transport a 25" TV of older version. This tree was 3 and 1/2 feet tall but was reduced to 1 foot high due to molds. One hard lesson learned that it is tricky to keep tree warm enough but not to cook the tree when the weather is not stable-one day cold, the next day hot!
Now, this shortened tree is growing well again!

And now plus these 4 little fig babies from Brugmansia-quebec nursery. I will be watching them closely and recording the process as if conducting an experiment.

What varieties of fig trees do you grow?

    Hi,

Update of my 4 lovely fig babies:
The fig babies are doing well!
LSU Gold growing the fastest while Archipel
    is the slowest of all.

    Quick questions:

Was the ordering process simple, or did you have to fill out permits, forms, and other Governmental crap, to get those trees mailed into The States? I want to simply, order, pay, and take delivery. Done, finished, end of story.

I want to order from either/or, but want my name linked to NOTHING that the despicable, US Gov't can intercept. But then again, they already intercept, and store, everything that's sent over computers, e-mails, and phone lines. I still hate all the "red-tape".

Thanks for the help, and answers. Both Brugmansia and Adriano has some interesting selections.

    Hi, sikovasiliko:

My drummondi and cveko are not doing well!
I am worried that these two may not survive as Winter is coming
and they are almost the same size as I had received them
earlier in June. I wonder if they were stressed because they were not transplanted right the way.

My other two fig babies are doing wonderfully.
LSU gold is growing the fastest, it has grown a little more than 6".
Archipel is growing well (not as fast as LSU gold), its leaves
are just beautiful (green with 5 lobes).

So, how is your new fig baby Cveko?

Here is another small farm/nursery in Niagara that has fig trees for pick up and ships fig cuttings.
