fritz, you may have over fertilized your tree. your tree may be focusing more on growth while sacrificing fruit. pinching will force more energy down the tree which is where you want it to be for producing figs. if you got a lot of growth this year you may want to eliminate fertilizer next year. an old fig grower showed me how sniping three nodes from the tip of each branch when it goes dormant will keep your tree more compact and force growth downward. some debate this but i find that it keeps your tree from growing so large that eventually it becomes more difficult to harvest the fruit at the top. i hope this help you.

I fertilized with 0-20-0 back in April (I think) and just toped with 20-20-20 which I was planning once every 3 weeks.
I trimmed it back pretty well for the winter. Maybe too well?

Too much fertilizer = few fruits,but the people intrested in selling fertiliser will tell you otherwise.

that is right herman. a couple of years ago i did the same thing with my lsu gold. it grew amazingly fast that season but produced very little fruit. the lsu gold is already a fast growing tree but i thought fertilizing would give me more fruit, WRONG! the good thing about fig trees are that they are pretty forgiving to the ways we try to improve them. they usually bounce back.
