I did not know people were using the 5-1-1 for fig trees. I just transferred a fig tree to a larger pot but added some perlite and a little pine bark that I was preparing for repotting a meyer lemon tree too so I thought why not add some of the pine bark to the fig tree mix. I have used only the organic garden soil retail mix with perlite in the past and the figs seemed to like that. I would not do any root pruning now. A 5-1-1 mix seems like it would be to light a mix for a fig tree and it would require frequent watering. But if people say it works I might try it for an experiment myself. You can repot but I would not disturb the roots to much with the heat of summer here.
