Leave them longer.
I ,this year had a lot of loss trying to root cuttings here in NJ.
This year is a bad year for rooting cuttings,so the stronger they get before you disturb them the greater the chance they will become a plant.

Are these cuttings that are planted and you are talking about foliage or what? Do you know for sure that they are rooted? And when you say they are covered, what do you mean? I use plastic domes over my rooted cuttings to keep in moisture and warmth, but I remove the domes when it starts to become too hot inside this mini-environment.

It would help if you could post pictures. Just because you get leafing out aboveground is no guarantee that you have any rooting. I've rooted probably 30 varieties of figs and I have gotten fooled by beautiful foliage...when I went to transplant into a larger container I found that no root system had developed. Conversely, figs sometimes develop a strong root structure before leafing out. Now, the only way I root is in 16 oz. clear plastic cups so I can be sure I have adequate root structure before I disturb the cuttings.

They are the Brown Turkey cutting I rooted in pot. They are now covered in plastic dome. I can see one cutting has white roots even above the potting media.

I tried to test if they have roots down in there by pulling up the cuttings. At least three of the four appear rooted since it is hard to pull them up. But one seems a little easy to come up, so I think the roots are shallow.

With this old method, I believe three cutting are already rooted and the roots are strong. The other has relatively weak roots and should be babied longer.

It is a good ideal to root them in clear pot. I just put my pot near the window and never take off the plastic dome. It does not get direct sun.
