Recently potted Chicago Hardy appears to be in shock

I planted a Chicago Hardy fig last week in a large plastic composition "half barrel" planter on my patio. The leaves are yellowing and dying from the bottom up, with only the top leaves looking relatively healthy.

I used organic potting soil with an added cup of pelletized lime for proper Ph balance. The plant gets about 4-5 hours of direct sun per day.

I planted the tree with the entire root pack intact, and with the organic soil both as a base and as a cover. I also drilled multiple 1/16" holes across the bottom of the planter to allow for drainage.

I watered the plant immediately but did not water again following repeated rains this week, in order to avoid saturating the soil.

I would appreciate any suggestions.
