Pinching every 6th leaf, is really intended for
mature fig trees.

If I understand correctly, all you have at present
are young fig-whips (height was not specified).
At that stage, maybe all you need is to pinch
JUST the tip so that the young tree branches
at the right height that you wish...

You nailed it. They are young whips about a foot and a half to two feet tall. I'll just do some pinching/pruning to keep the height in check.

Please help! I have an avocado growing in a coconut, from a seed I decided to drop in the soil to see what would happen. I've done this twice before, and I always end up with just one tall, skinny stem. When is the best time to pinch a young avocado plant so that it branches out?

Pinching question...Have a brown turkey in ground. It started new shoots from the bottom. They are now about 18" talk and have about 5 leaves on them. If I pinch the tree will only be 18" talk...is this correct or am I missing something?
