Fig refuses to wake up

Has anyone out ever had a fig that refused to wake up? One of my potted figs is doing that this year. It was stored in my detatched garage and suffered some dieback at the tips, but when I dug it up, the roots looked nice and healthy. The main trunk as well as the side branches are still moist and supple and green when I scatch the bark. All indicating that it's still alive, but it's now July and still no sign of budding. All my other figs are fully leafed out and showing little figlets already.

Just wondering if this happens often.

Similar thing here. 4 rooted cuttings in a community pot hit by an unexpected frost last fall. Leaves shrivelled in a bad ugly way not like usual fall leaf drop. I thought the cuttings were damaged but repotted them anyway during winter into separate pots. 1 cutting leafed out about 1 month ago, another one about 2 weeks ago, a third is just budding, a fourth looks dead and shrivelled. My other figs leafed out about 3 mos ago (around April 1)and the largest has put on about 2 feet of growth.
I think the hot weather (>80 F) and moisture woke them up from dormancy. The unexpected frost did something to them.
If you have green stems with no shriveling and healthy roots, the fig should come back.

Sounds like it will come back. Just give it some time.

I'm hopeful, but definately no figs from that tree this year...

I have 3 that have not woke up yet -- Paradiso, Battalagia Green & Large Dark Greek. I am most concern about BG as I don't have any spares. Fortunately the wood is still green & I am still hopeful. I checked the roots & observed they were almost all killed/rotting. Thus I cut out the rotted/dead roots & repotted about 2 months now.

I lost quite a few potted fig trees last year to the same problem including my Fiorone di Ruvo, which quite a few folks requested cuttings from. I could never figure out what caused the problem of why they never broke dormancy. I chaulked it up to having watered my dormant figs too much during a warm winter period which suddenly turned bitter cold and likely froze the roots.
It wasn't enough that I had lost some real unique varieties to conditions I could never explain. The real kicker was a fellow who wanted Fiorone di Ruvo so bad, tell me, "how could you possibly lose that tree...now, where can I get cuttings?"
It never fails to amaze me how greed can sound so cruel.

Leon, you could be correct about over watering. I only water my figs twice cautiously during the dormant period. I was surprised that the soil was rather moist at the bottom half of the pots when I root pruned the trees in late March/early April. I lost 2 potted Atreano's where the roots rotted & gave the 3rd surviving pot away on a trade that I promised. I took a cutting before I mailed the Atreano & hopefully the cutting makes it thru the next stage.

There was no need for anyone to deserve a remmark like that. Its painful enough to lose a variant. You are welcome to check with me whether I have cuttings. I acquired this variant about a month ago from a reliable source in this forum. How's the Slocan doing? If it is bad news let me know & I would gladly send replacement cuttings or a small dormant rooted one.
