It is complicated. You will get both males and females and the chances are that all will need the pollinating fig wasp to set any fruit. If you want to learn more then Google "the weird sex life of figs"

Of course at the moment all I'm really concerned with is whether or not store bought fruit could be used as seed stock...but down the line the point you make is entirely valid.

Seemed like a "yes" though.

...Would still love some suggestions as to how to go about it though.
