Vasilika Sika

| I am fairly new to growing figs and have a few younger plants. I have been looking at different varieties and came across the Vasilika Sika. I have not been able to find a place that may sell these or to much information on growing them. I live in Minnesota in zone 4 so I know it would not survive outside but was wondering if it would do well in a pot indoors. I was also wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find them.
Thank you for your help,
Paul |

| Paul, congrats on doing some really good homework on your figs. You have asked about a very hard and not to mention very expensive variety. I have seen the Vasilika Sika priced at up to ~>$100 on ebay as it is soo rare, if it even makes it there. Many of the Vasilika Sika are usually purchased via private forum members. This tree was also at the famed nursery Belleclares that is not longer open because the family that owned it retired. I might have a friend or two that might help you, but I hope your are not wanting free cuttings or a bargain basement priced tree. The Vasilika should do fine in a pot, but not sure if you have enough summer sunlight or heat to get good figs, but I will let others help chime in. Thanks. |

| I got my tree from the famous San Diegon Jon "Encanto" farms. It was a good size tree for the price I paid. So give Jon a call or email Jon for he may have one or can start one for you. Good luck. |

| Thanks for the information. I did not realize this variety was so rare. When looking for figs online I was only able to find places that had the same ten varieties or so. Because I am fairly new at growing figs I think a plant like that may be a little out of my league for growing and a bit more than I would like to invest at the moment. Maybe in a few years I may be looking for one after I get a little more experience. Thanks, Paul |

| I think if your a newbie and in your zone it might take a lot of effort to make the vasilika give figs (heat units, possible die back). You might want to try to practice on some fig then give the vasilka a try. The vasilka was found in athens, greece, not sure if it was by the famous fig collector hanc mathes. |
