| Hello everyone, I'm so new here it still hurts...I've been reading posts from your forum for almost two weeks now. I see tons of great info and pics that are very well done. My question is how do you all seem to get your figs to produce crops so early, alot of your pics show figs with fully mature figs - I'm assuming your all down south in much warmer weather. Here in RI we've had nothing but rain and overcast skies for the past month or more.... |

| Location, location, location. Elevation, temperature, late freeze, humidity, no humidity, etc, etc, etc. I started cuttings at my house on the Texas coast in December and had mini figs on those same 10" cuttings by the end of February. I have those same cuttings (different batch from same tree) in the same cups at my house in northern California at 2000 feet elevation and they are barely starting to leaf out and it is 4 months later. Welcome to the world of growing fig trees. FF |

| First is the location, my last frost date here is May 1st, so my figs doesn't wake up until Late May to June. Other areas warm up much sooner, so their figs will wake up that much sooner. Second, It depends the the fig type as well. For a breba (fruit on last years wood) type fig, like Desert King, even up here in Canada, the breba figs are already "mature" in size but not ripe. That won't happen for me until August some time. Main crop (fruits growing from this years fresh wood) won't ripen until late September-October if we get enough sun. You can also push your figs to crop earlier by piching the growing tips after 5 or 6 leaves as well. Up here, if we left the figs to grow on their own, our summers are not long enough for the figs to mature. So we pinch the tips around mid June to make the tree put out figs earlier (but you get fewer fruit). Check out herman2's threads on this subject. Hope this helps. |

| Its location for me too. I live in AZ and most of my fig trees were leafed out in January and the others came along by mid February. At this point I have been picking and eating 3-15 figs every day for the last 6-8 weeks. Once they start leafing out I mulch them with composted leaves and composted de-smelled steer manure and they just take off from there. In 2-3 more weeks the Breba crop will have been harvested. At that point I will mulch them again to try to jump start the Main crop. With a little luck I will have a nice Main crop harvest this year. |

Welcome to the forum rifig401. These are some Rhode Island brebas - not ripe, but getting there. The main crop figs are just starting to pop. This weather pattern will eventually change - hopefully for the better. Paradiso Brebas |

palestine Your main crop seem to be at least three weeks ahead of us in Zone 5a. Nice picture of abundant crop on a single branch. Good luck with ripening. |

| Palestine, Wow, already got a ripe fig? How are you growing your figs? I'm only 30-40 min drive from Oakville and my main crop figs are just starting to show for me. Are you using a greenhouse of sort to get them started early? |
