Celeste Fruit 'Cracks'

Hi Folks,

Do Celeste figs exhibit "cracks" on their skin as they swell up when ripening like a black mission? I have a young black mission that had fruits that looked somewhat similar to celeste figs and wanted to make sure I did not have a mixed up variety. I know that fig color can vary with soil conditions etc.

Celestes d have crack sometimes, though not a regular as BM. There really shouldn't be any smilarity in color and size between the two.

Celeste doesn't normally split. Excessive rainfall will cause this, however, and fruit will ripen prematurely without forming sugars. It will also cause the eyes to open.

My suggestion is to remove them proactively when you notice the first signs of trouble, to avoid insect issues. Chances are you have other fruits still in the green stage that you can enjoy this fall.
