digging up large fig tree

Is it possible to dig up a large fig tree? Sorry don't have pictures but i guessing tree is at least 10 years old and the trunk is pretty thick. The top branches are spread about 8 feet.When would be the best time to move,location Philadelphia,PA. Could be they might change their mind about the tree but just asking ahead of time to get some info on the process.Like how deep to dig and how wide, how much would have to be cut off top, how to support tree when first replanted,etc..

Move as soon as possible after the leaves fall off. Dig as big a rootball as possible. The amount of top to cut off depends on how much soil and roots are moved but if it were mine I'd cut back 50-90%. Keep the rootball moist all next summer.

Make sure it is a good tasting, productive tree,that doesn;t drop fruits, before you do all That work.

I will try to get as big of root ball that a can. And keep it watered next summer. If all else fails I'll have cuttings.
