Transplant Potted fig now or in spring?

Somehow or another, I mixed up the labels on my figs and ended up planting my Marseilles/Oregon Prolific in the ground instead of leaving it in a pot. That means the fig in the pot is the hardier "Celeste" which will easily handle my winters. I'd like to put that one in the ground at some point and I'm wondering if I should do it this fall or wait until spring?

If I do it this fall, I'm going to wait until I've harvested all the figs which may be quite late in the season so I'm wondering how much additional root growth will happen this year. In other words, if I can't get it in the ground until mid-October, will transplanting it then be too stressful for the plant/roots, or will it actually have time to get acclimated? If I plant it when the leaves are falling off will that be too much for it to handle?

Or is it better to wait until the plant has lost all its leaves and gone dormant to transplant it?

Or do I just put the whole thing off until Spring?

Thanks!
