Self watering containers

I experimented this year with 15 different varieties in self watering containers using Home Depot 5 gallon buckets, 1" PVC pipes and a Plastic cup for wicking.

Soil: 70% Peat, 20% Vermiculite, and 10% Perlite. Added about 2 cups Dolomite Lime scattered through the soil. Fertilizer on top was 1 scoop of Osmocote 19-6-12.

Used Globalbuckets.org for idea

These were planted about 2 weeks after Mother's Day from 6 inch size pots. Most have attained about a foot of new growth and about 6 have come close to 30 inches after about 10 weeks
