Figs spoiling on the tree

I have a Celeste tree here in S. Calif where we do not have summer rain. Last year I had a heavy infestation of dried fruit beetles, but figs they did not inhabit were good. This year much fewer beetles but nearly all the figs sour before ripening. They have a thin liquid that exits out the bottom eye and insides look OK, no visible pests, but taste fermented. What a drag after looking forward fresh figs and there is nothing but a nasty mess. Anybody know the likely cause and is there anything I can do?
