depends whether you want it to be a multi trunk bush/tree or a single trunk tree. I personally leave them alone for awhile and then make a decision. Multi truck provides more figs at a more reachable level, multi trunk makes for a larger footprint, more space required. Either way works. Read all the posts, the knowledge contained here is phenomenal.

Nice tree, nice to start with, don't make the newbie mistake and over water. Fig trees are very tolerant/forgiving but very intolerant of over watering. I killed a couple before I found the forums.

no don't prune the bottom limbs off. If you start cutting on the tree it will send out new shoots and they will likely die because they won't have time to harden off before cold weather sets in. if you do any pruning wait until fall or before bud break in spring. if you do remove limbs this fall how about sending me the cutting:)
