Powdered Cinnamon On Figs

FF Members:

An old orchid grower once told me that powdered cinnamon sprinkled over fresh pruning cuts not only seals them from excessive "bleeding" of sap, but also, disinfects them from all kinds of bad things that would enter into the exposed wounds. The essential oils in the cinnamon bark kills the pathogens, etc.

I keep a small bottle handy when I prune plants and I cover the fresh cuts until a nice layer clings to the oozing sap/moisture.

I tried it on fig trees when I prune, and the cinnamon mixes with the latexy sap, and forms a kind of "clot" that not only seals the wounds, but disinfects, and forms a protective cover over the fresh cuts. It stays on until the cuts start to heal-over.

It smells good too. Reminds me of French Toast!
